Getting Started with ChatRoutes
Learn how to harness the power of AI conversation branching to explore multiple perspectives and find the best solutions.
Welcome to ChatRoutes
ChatRoutes revolutionizes how you interact with AI by introducing conversation branching - the ability to explore multiple paths in a single conversation without losing your progress.
Why Conversation Branching?
Traditional AI chat interfaces force you into a linear conversation. If you want to explore a different approach, you have to start over or risk losing context. ChatRoutes solves this with branching.
Key Benefits
- Explore Multiple Perspectives - Try different approaches without losing your work
- Compare AI Responses - Run the same prompt with different models or temperatures
- Iterate Efficiently - Branch from any point to try variations
- Preserve Context - Keep your conversation history intact across branches
Getting Started
Step 1: Create Your First Conversation
Simply visit chatroutes.com and start chatting. No sign-up required for guest mode:
- 1,000 free tokens to explore
- 6 branches to try different paths
- Access to GPT-5 and Claude Opus 4.1
Step 2: Create a Branch
When you want to explore a different direction:
- Click the "Create Branch" button next to any message
- Choose your context mode (FULL, PARTIAL, or NONE)
- Give your branch a descriptive name
- Start exploring!
Step 3: Switch Between Branches
Use the branch switcher to navigate between your different conversation paths. Each branch maintains its own history and context.
Advanced Features
Branch Context Modes
Control how much conversation history carries over to new branches:
- FULL - Include all messages up to the fork point (best for continuity)
- PARTIAL - Include only the last exchange (saves tokens)
- NONE - Start fresh with no context (for completely new directions)
Parallel Responses
Try multiple AI models or temperature settings simultaneously:
- Click "Try Alternatives"
- Configure up to 3 variations
- Compare results side-by-side
- Select the best response to continue
Interactive Tree Visualization
View your entire conversation structure:
- Hierarchical layout showing parent-child relationships
- Pan and zoom controls for large conversation trees
- Click to navigate between branches instantly
Best Practices
1. Name Your Branches Descriptively
Instead of "Branch 1", use names like:
- "Technical Implementation"
- "Creative Approach"
- "Cost-Optimized Solution"
2. Use Context Modes Strategically
- Use FULL when continuity matters
- Use PARTIAL to save tokens while maintaining relevance
- Use NONE for completely fresh perspectives
3. Leverage Parallel Responses
When you're unsure which approach to take, run parallel responses with:
- Different temperature settings (0.5 for precise, 2.0 for creative)
- Different AI models (GPT-5 for reasoning, Claude for writing)
Example Use Cases

- Branch 1: Traditional approach
- Branch 2: Innovative solution
- Branch 3: Cost-optimized method
